Overall it's a wonderful movie and a pure cinematic experience. The pacing was good and those who appreciate pure cinema will love it given the fact that it's very close to reality and perfectly portrayed the harshness that was present in Chambal back in those days. This is a film based on true events and carries a deep meaning and message. This is not the typical Bollywood film with songs and romance. It has a very deep meaning that a lot of people will fail to understand. This movie kept me hooked from the start to the end. The action sequences were very well choreographed and very enjoyable. The scenery was bound to be good since the film was shot on location. The story was very well paced and high on intensity. It clearly shows how much research he did before making this film since everything was so natural including the language spoken throughout the movie and how birds react to dead bodies. Ashutosh Rana was an absolute treat to watch as the police captain trying to hunt down the gang. Ranvir Shorey was absolutely mind blowing as the second in command. Bhumi Pednekar was fantastic as the woman on the run. He was able to portray the notoriety that the bandits of Chambal possess. Manoj Bajpayee as usual nailed his role as the leader of the gang. He was outstanding in every aspect and he seemed totally natural in his character. Sushant Singh Rajput delivers his career best performance here. The direction, acting, story, locations are on point. I was very impressed with the movie and its pacing as well as how close it is to reality. But after seeing the trailer I got super excited. When the movie was announced, I was a little skeptical mainly because Bollywood always ruin movies with unnecessary songs and romance. What happens next forms the rest of the film. Vakil agrees but Lakhna realizes it's not just and hence revolts. She is accused of killing her father-in-law and they ask the gang to hand over Indu and Sonchiriya. They halt to seek blessings of their goddess at a temple where Indu's husband and other family members arrive.
Sonchiriya needs to be taken to the hospital urgently and she asks for Vakil's help.
She's accompanied by her sister Sonchiriya (Khushiya) who has been brutally raped. Meanwhile, as they are running from the cops, they bump into Indumati Tomar (Bhumi Pednekar). Lakhna is fed up of being a rebel and wants to surrender.
Vakil, now the leader of the gang, accuses Lakhna of betraying them and calling the cops. In the tough fight, Man Singh and half of the gang get killed. However, the cops, led by Virender Gujjar (Ashutosh Rana) ambush the gang. Man Singh and his gang reaches the marriage venue in order to loot this wealth. A marriage is taking place in this hamlet where the groom is about to get a huge amount of gold and cash. Based on a tip from Lacchu (Jaspal Sharma), he and his men descend to Brahmpuri village. Man Singh is in need of money to procure new arms. Vakil Singh (Ranvir Shorey) and Lakhna (Sushant Singh Rajput) are important members of this gang. Man Singh (Manoj Bajpayee) meanwhile leads a gang in Chambal, a region that more or less is lawless. The Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, has declared Emergency in the country. This is the story of a group of rebels in Chambal.
